Lissie and Dylan LeBlanc (not Matt LeBlanc, as he was introduced) at the Cedar Cultural Center, Jan 2011.
Shot for review in the Twin Cities Daily Planet.
Between her excitement over pulling the faux leather leggings from her closet to wear instead of her usual jeans, her desire to be in Prairie Home Companion which she admits to listening to every Sunday with her windows wide open while baking a pie and her sweet banter (including accusations that her bandmate looks just like MacGruber, I felt like I would like to take Lissie home and just have her around to sing in my backyard. And she seems like someone who just might go for it – low key and laid back…but with one helluva voice. It’s not hard to understand why she had to postpone her original show date last fall due to shredded vocal cords.
Cake in 15 posted several videos of the show as well as the story behind LeBlanc’s American Airlines guitar fiasco and why it’s a good idea to make an effort for someone who’s on a cross-country tour.

After getting stuck in Chicago and having to postpone a show that no one else would have made it to anyway, Romantica had their “America” vinyl release show at the Cedar Cultural Center on Monday night. Ryan Lovan from Roma di Luna accompanied them on the drums.
Kaiser Cartel, super cute and funny duo from Brooklyn opened.

Then Romantica played the entirety of the album as well as a few new songs and a couple of holiday additions. I know the album almost word for word so it was fun to hear it all but it was also neat to hear Ben Kyle explain the origins and meanings behind some of the songs. My friend Eric recorded several of the songs (and is a good overall source for video recordings of Mpls music stuffs!)

This next photo, unfortunately, didn’t turn out as much of anything because there wasn’t enough light but during an especially rousing song, I looked over at the soundboard where the sound guy and his lady were swing-dancing away. I’m guessing it’s a pretty good sign when you can move the sound guy to dance.
