Best of Midwest Burlesk

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

This was my second year photographing the Best of the Midwest Burlesk Festival at the Ritz Theater. I went on Saturday night, the last two shows of the three day festival. Just like last year, it was gorgeous, hilarious, seductive, smart and downright tantalizing. The hostess, Nadine Dubois, could say just about anything and sound nothing but amazing and the headliners, Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey (you can guess which one he is in the photos) were really something else.

If you’re in the Twin Cities area, check out Lili’s Burlesque Revue for more local burlesque (and lessons!).

Best of Midwest Burlesk

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Adding yet another unique photo opportunity to my list, I attended Lili’s Burlesque Best of Midwest Burlesk last weekend. I’d never been to a burlesque show but I have to say, it was pretty amazing. Witty, tantalizing and classy. “We sell the sizzle, not the steak,” they inform the audience at the beginning of the show.

They also inform the audience that “people will be taking their clothes off!” So the photos, of course, contain very few articles of clothing.

Ignite Fire Troupe

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Part of my Halloween festivities included a trip to St. Paul’s Java Train Cafe to see the Ignite Fire Troupe performing fire poi dancing. I think I’m going to start practicing this in my backyard. If all my arm and head hair is gone the next time you see me, you’ll know why.
